Atgah Khan's Tomb Send Enquiry

Atgah Khan's Tomb
The tomb of Atgah Khan Tomb lies in the northern part of Nizamuddin Village and northeast of the main enclosure of Nizamuddin's sacred shrine. Atgah Khan was the husband of one of Akbar's wet nurses, Jija Angah. He was a great friend of Akbar and was killed by Adham Khan, son of Maham Anga, another wet nurse of Akbar. Atgah Khan held important positions in Akbar's court. His tomb is an excellent example of the early Mughal style. Built of red stone within a walled enclosure, the interior of the tomb was decorated with painted plaster. The plaster has worn off in places but one can still see the beautiful artistry left on the remaining patches. The tomb is small in size, it measures just 6 sq meters, but its red sandstone walls, inlaid with marble and colored tiles makes it one of the most impressive structures of the early Mughal period. The four sides of the enclosure contain deeply recessed arches. There are colored tiles on the western wall of the enclosure while the southern door of the tomb has an inscription, which informs visitors that the tomb was completed in 1566-67.

Visitors can enter the tomb from the lanes of the Nizamuddin village. It is not mandatory to pay any money to the families living just before the tomb but you can still get their good wishes and some relevant information by giving them some baksheesh
