Idukki
A landlocked area, Idukki is famous for its wildlife sanctuaries, tea gardens and spice plantations and mountain treks. Idukki also has the highest arch dam of Asia. The endangered Nilgiri Tahr is found in the Eravikulam National Park, which was instituted solely with the aim of preservation of this species.

Location of Idukki
Idukki is located in the middle of Kerala and is bound by by Ernakulam and Kottayam Districts of Kerala on the west. This district is famous for its mountainous hills and dense forests. It is one of the most nature-rich districts of Kerala.

What to see in Idukki?
Idukki Arch Dam: The world's second and Asia's first arch dam, Idukki Arch Dam stands at a height of 550 ft. and a width of 650ft. It is built across the Kuravan and Kurathi hills and lies close to the Cheruthoni barrage. The Kulamavu Dam lies to its west.

Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary: Idukki Wildlife sanctuary extends over the taluks of Thodupuzha and Udumbanchola and is spread across an area of 77 sq.km. The Idukki Reservoir is formed by three dams - Cheruthoni, Idukki and Kulamanu. Hill View Park: The Hill View Park as the name suggests, offers a panoramic view of the place where you can view wild elephants in their natural habitat. Spread across an area of 8 acres, this park lies close to the Cheruthony dam. There is a herbal garden and children's play area which adds to the attraction of the park.

Nadukani: If you want to enjoy the natural beauty and a quiet environment, then you must visit Nadukani. It is an ideal place for picnikers.

Munnar: One of the most popular hill stations of India, Munnar is located in Idukki district of Kerala at a height of 1600mts above sea level. It is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. The quaint little hill station is famous for its sprawling tea gardens, winding lanes, and trekking options. You would be fascinated by the rows of unending tea plantations on entry into Munnar. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India - Anamudi - at a height of over 2695 mts and is an ideal destination for trekkers.

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary: Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best wildlife sanctuaries of the country located in the district of Idukki. It was declared a tiger reserve in 1978. The reserve attracts hundreds of tourists each year for its varied wildlife and scenic beauty.

Top Station: Situated at a height of 1700mts above sea level, Top Station is located at a distance of 32kms from Munnar. The rare Neelakurunji (strobilanthus) belongs to this region. You can also get an exquisite view of Tamil Nadu from this place.
