Mukteshwar
Mukteshwar is a gorgeous hill station with its own unique charm and easy
accessibility. It is now famous for the Indian Veterinary Research Institute,
Mukteshwar Reserve Forest and the Mukteshwar Temple. Its pleasant climate and

Mukteshwar Temple: The Mukteshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is
situated at an altitude of 2,315 m above sea level and is accessible by stone
stairs. It has a marvelloous lingam all in white marble. The idols of Brahma,
Vishnu, Parvati, Ganesh, Nandi and Hanuman surround the lingam.
Chauti Jaali: Just next to Mukteshwar temple is Chauti Jaali, a natural
latticework on the rock. There is belief that women who cannot conceive are
blessed with a child after touching this jaali. Apart from the main outcrop,
there are other protuberances.
Indian Veterinary Institute: Established in 1898, Indian Veterinary Institute
comprises of a large campus with various departments like Research, Animal
Nutrition, Genetics and Bacteriology. It also houses a museum and a library.
Methodist Church: The Methodist Church lies on the narrow path that has been cut
in rock and polished over the years by the people who walk over this place to
visit the church. The church is homely keeping in line with the old colonial
structures around the city.
What to do in Mukteshwar When in Mukteshwar, the best thing you can do is take long walks along thick
coniferous forests and rows of fruit orchards like apples, plums, peaches,
apricots and pears.
Excursions from Mukteshwar Nathuakhan: Part of Kumaon's orchard country, Nathuakhan lies 20km from
Mukteshwar. The entire stretch between Nathuakhan to Hartola is dotted with
lovely country homes. You can get a fabulous view of the Himalayas and an
excellent view of the Almora by night.
Ramgarh: 26km from Mukteshwar, it was in Ramgarh Rabindranath Tagore started
writing Gitanjali. Tagore Point lies at a height of 8,500 ft. Ramgarh is today
more famous for its orchards of apple, pear and peach.
